Use Case #2 - Land Use Thematic Mapper
NB: _This use case is part of the Advanced (GIS) interface_.
Problem Statement
Land use planning is based on information that might not be known or accessible by the user. Assembling data from multiple sources is beyond the capability of most public users. A consolidated view of information, with the ability to probe it in an ad hoc manner, is required.
Context
Land use planning requires the use of a broad spectrum of data, including physical, social and economic geography. The use of this information by our community of practice may require more in depth inquiry than that described in [:LMUDescription:Use Case #1]. For example, the user may want to view conservation areas and oil and gas activity in a single map. The user may also need more detail on features displayed on a map, such as the age of seismic lines within a portion of the planning region.
Functional Description
- Users are able to navigate to a single page displaying a map frame for a selected Planning Region/LMU/Theme , using menus, dropdown lists and/or an image map.
- The map frame has map tools for manipulating the map, including [:Atlas_Requirements_draft#Display_Navigation_of_Spatial_Da:Display Navigation of Spatial Data], [:Atlas_Requirements_draft#Summarize_Spatial_Data:Summarize Spatial Data].
- The user may select layers from a [:AtlasDataSchema:list of available layers] and add them to the [:Atlas_Design_draft#Map:map display]. Layer access permissions may be configured to allow access by only certain users.
- The user may query attributes of some layers, where allowed by the layer descriptions. Results for queries appear in under the 'Results Tab' window in the [:Atlas_Design_draft#Information_Area:Information Area].
- The user may generate a report including a copy of the map display, including the legend and results tab information. The report is formatted as an Adobe Postscript file, and sent to the user via email.
