Use Case #3: Spatially referenced multimedia
NB: _This Use Case is part of the Advanced interface._
Problem Statement Landscape Management Units and other spatial features are described by multi-media formats, including image, video and audio files.
Context Landscape images (jpg) are used to help people visualize the different landscapes of a planning region. Audio clips (wav, mp3) are used to help understand local placename pronunciation. Video (mov) files are used to relate stories and field visits with elders and land users.
Query returns for Atlas layers that have associated files in media formats should include links to media files.
Functional Description
- feature_id <->media_ref links in data or file system architecture
- video streaming is possible using references to existing server resources
- users may require plugins to view certain media formats (e.g. Quicktime)
- similar functionality is demonstrated in this prototype: http://mapserver.planyukon.ca/kamap/heritage.html
