Project Goals, Requirements and Design

The objective of this project is to create an online Land Use Planning Atlas for the Yukon. The application will allow for different types of users, and will associate different mapping functionality with each user type. A user management portion needs to be developed therefore. Chameleon and PHP/Mapscript will be used, as well as MapServer 4.10 (new mapfile includes are required, so 4.10 must be used). Some of the functionality required includes spatial operations, so <nop>PostGIS</nop>/PostgreSQL will also be required.

  • Proposal Download (contains initial Requirements and Design notes)
  • contract Download (official contract, only 4 pages, but refers to above proposal)

Project Plan

Phase 1 - Requirements and Design

Description

The purpose of this initial phase is to take this document and agree on a complete set of requirements and design of the Land Use Planning Atlas. The issues that will be resolved in this phase are:

  • This requirements document will be reviewed in order to develop a firm set of requirements, agreed upon between YLUPC and DM Solutions.
  • The design of the graphical user interface (GUI) will occur. Overall functionality and behaviour of application will be determined.
  • Reference data from the CSW will be examined to incorporate into the atlas.
  • YLUPC data will be examined.
  • Examine other potential data sources from the Yukon group.
Details
  • See Page 18 of the proposal/requirements document Download for details
  • %I% in development: [:Atlas_Requirements_draft:Draft Requirements and Related Notes] %I%
Key Dates and Deliverables
  • The deadline for Phase 1 was changed to Dec 18th

Phase 2 - Development

Description

The purpose of this phase is to develop the application using Chameleon/MapServer?/PHP, with the overall goal of the phase being the creation on an application that meets all of the desired requirements. The issues that will be resolved in this phase are:

  • Development of application, leveraging Chameleon with ongoing feedback from YLUPC based on the requirements from Phase 1.
  • Extend Chameleon where necessary, including documentation and quality assurance (additions to Chameleon will be returned to the open source community for use).
  • Reference data from the Yukon Geomatics' SDE database (CSW) will be added, as well as YLUPC data.
  • Creation of user guides for the application, for each type of atlas user (administrator, registered, and non-registered).
Details

See Page 19 of the proposal/requirements document Download for functionality details

Key Dates and Deliverables
  • The Phase 2 deadline is February 27, 2007; however only a demo of the application is due at this time

Phase 3 - Deployment at YLUPC and Training

Description

The purpose of this phase is to assist in the deployment of the application at YLUPC, as well as train YLUPC administration staff.

  • Support installation of application at YLUPC. DM Solutions will be available as required.
  • YLUPC staff will be trained on the administration of the application. Staff will learn how to use the administration interface (adding users, groups, managing data layers).
